For an outsider, Dubai is a bustling city filled with modern structures exhibiting glitz and glamour. However, no one can miss a glimpse of the particular spot that continues to bewitch everyone: the Creek. Situated in the between the banks of
Deira and Bur Dubai, this waterway upholds a traditional memoir for originating trade, pearl hunting and fishing in the UAE.
The story began in 1833 when the Maktoum family led 800 or so members of the Bani Yas tribe and settled by the creek. As years progressed during the 20th century period, the Creek was then transformed into a flourishing seaport. In the late 1900’s, due to numerous ships utilizing the harbor, silt rose, which led to the former ruler His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum to form an ideal project to get the Creek dredged. Did you know that it was this visionary plan that
heightened the horizons in terms of trading and molded Dubai as the ideal trading hub? Indeed it is!
Currently, Creek has been re-modified and renamed as Al Seef, the Dubai Heritage District. The old heritage villages formerly known as Bedouin villages are restored but modernized as an attraction on one half of the district; whereas the other half incorporates contemporary infrastructures. The re-designing part of the creek has unfolded endless amount of places to explore; from the gold and textile souq which comprises of artisan jewelry and original woven textiles, to art murals displayed in local galleries. One cannot also miss the avant-garde restaurants where vendors are selling mouthwatering burgers and crepes.
The sounds, sights, and flavors, without doubt, converge to form an artistic haven right here at the heart of Dubai.
